India qualifies for knockout
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 28.
The Indian team continued its good work and beat Philippines 3-0 in a group-5 league match of the ITF junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania tennis tournament in Colombo on Wednesday.
Jeevan Nedunchezhian beat Ralph Kevin Barte 6-1, 6-1 and Rupesh Roy defeated Miguel Lorenzo Narvaez 6-2, 6-2.
In the doubles, Rupesh and Sanam Singh beat Ralph Kevin Barte and Miguel Lorenzo Narvaez 6-4, 6-2 to help India maintain a clean slate in the three-member group, having beaten Korea earlier.
In the quarterfinals, second-seeded India will take on Thailand, top-seeded Australia will meet Korea, fourth-seeded Japan will clash with Sri Lanka and fifth-seeded Uzbekistan will be challenged by sixth-seeded Chinese Taipei.
The top four teams from the zonal qualification tournament will make it to the World Group final to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in September.
