Sharad upsets Agnibesh

KOLKATA, APRIL 28. Unseeded local boy Sharad Suvro Sarkar upset fifth-seed Agnibesh Dasgupta of Delhi in the first round of the boys' singles under-18 main draw in the Shambazar Tennis Club organised AITA-Talent Series meet here on Wednesday.

Qualifier Baibhav Das also sprang a surprise beating eighth seeded Mohammad Imran 6-0, 6-0.

The other seeded players including top seeded Arpit Sharma and second seeded Nirvick Mohinta progressed to the next round with facile wins.

The results: Boys' u-18 (first round): 1-Arpit Sharma (Ben) bt Harshvardhan (Guj) 6-1, 6-2; 7-Rohit Kumar (Ben) bt Arcopravo Rakshit (Ben) 6-3, 7-6(7-5); 4-Samriddh Burman (Ben) bt Iftekar Hussain (Ben) 6-2, 6-2; Sharad S. Sarkar (Ben) bt 5-Agnibesh Dasgupta (Del) 6-2, 2-6, 7-5; 6-Bruhath V. Raker (Kar) bt Anoorag Biswas 6-0, 6-0; 2-Nirvick Mohinta (Ben) bt Prateek Harlalka (Ben) 6-2, 6-1.

Girls' u-18 (pre-quarterfinals): 5-Dipti Srivastav (Ben) bt Snigdha Tyagi (Ben) 6-0, 6-0; 2-Treta Bhattacharya (Ben) bt Moumita Bhattacharya (Ben) 6-4, 7-5.

Boys' u-14 (first round): Sagnick Basu (Ben) bt Tanuj Kakrania (Ben) 6-2, 6-0; Rohan Roy (Ben) bt Amartya Das (Ben) 6-1, 6-0; Karamveer Singh Dhillon bt Aditya Sinha 6-4, 6-1.
