Unseeded local boy Sharad Suvro Sarkar upset fifth-seed Agnibesh Dasgupta of Delhi in the first round of the boys' singles under-18 main draw in the Shambazar Tennis Club organised AITA-Talent Series meet here on Wednesday. Qualifier Baibhav Das also sprang a surprise beating eighth seeded Mohammad Imran 6-0, 6-0. The other seeded players including top seeded Arpit Sharma and second seeded Nirvick Mohinta progressed to the next round with facile wins.
Girls' u-18 (pre-quarterfinals): 5-Dipti Srivastav (Ben) bt Snigdha Tyagi (Ben) 6-0, 6-0; 2-Treta Bhattacharya (Ben) bt Moumita Bhattacharya (Ben) 6-4, 7-5.
Boys' u-14 (first round): Sagnick Basu (Ben) bt Tanuj Kakrania (Ben) 6-2, 6-0; Rohan Roy (Ben) bt Amartya Das (Ben) 6-1, 6-0; Karamveer Singh Dhillon bt Aditya Sinha 6-4, 6-1.
