Death of newborn baby sparks stir

TUMKUR,
MAY 1.
The death of a newborn baby outside the Government Primary Health Centre at Kallambella in Tumkur district triggered an agitation on Saturday.
Family members of Lakshmamma of Kallambella, who was pregnant, told presspersons that they took her to the centre on Friday at about 4.30 p.m. They alleged that the doctor on duty, Shylaja, refused to attend to her. They said Lakshmamma was delivered of the child outside the health centre without medical assistance, and the newborn baby died. Lakshmamma's relatives, along with others from their village, staged an agitation and demanded action against the doctor, whose negligence, they alleged, caused the death of the baby.
