TUMKUR, MAY 1. D.N. Vishweswara Bhat, Judge, Third Court for Speedy Disposal of Cases, on Friday sentenced a man to imprisonment for five years for attempting to kill a moneylender. The Special Public Prosecutor, R.N. Nadiger, told the court that Ranganatha of Gandhinagar had borrowed Rs. 10,000 from Prabhaiah of Manishakthi Finance Company. He attacked Mr. Prabhaiah with a lethal weapon on June 2, 2000 when the latter approached him for repayment. Manjunatha, who went to the rescue of Mr. Prabhaiah, was also assaulted by Ranganatha, the court was told. Fake notes seized: Two persons from Goa were arrested and counterfeit notes reportedly seized from them on Friday night. The police said Ramachandra Gundu Rao Ingale (45) and S. Ravi (28) from Goa arrived by a late night bus at Honnenahalli in Tumkur district. Using counterfeit notes, they allegedly paid for supper at a hotel and bought two bed-sheets, according to the police. The hotelier and the owner of the shop who sold the bed-sheets alerted the police, and Ingale and Ravi were arrested.
