Taking the `king of fruits' abroad

MUMBAI, MAY 1. With a view to promoting the `king of fruits' worldwide, particularly the Alphonso variety grown in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, the Sindhudurg Zilla Krishi Pratisthanha will organise mango festivals in five countries next year.

Sudhir Sawant, chairman of the organisation, which organises mango fests in the country, told UNI that the festivals would be held in Germany, the UAE, Singapore, Italy and China.

He was speaking after the inauguration of a five-day mango festival in Juhu.

Mr. Sawant said the aim of organising such festivals was to create employment and boost domestic and export trade in mango.

Present on the occasion were film personalities, Jackie Shroff and Shabana Azmi and advertisement personality, Prahlad Kakkar. — UNI
