One killed in car-bus collision

BANGALORE, MAY 1. One person was killed and at least 20 people were injured in a collision between a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus and a car on the Kengeri tank bund today. Following the collision, the bus fell into a dry tank and overturned.

The accident took place around 8.45 a.m. Ashish Menon (35), area manager of Kotak Mahindra, who was driving the car, was killed on the spot. His colleague, Simi (30), was seriously injured, the police said.

At least 20 passengers of the BMTC bus (route number 218A) who were injured in the incident have been admitted to private hospitals at Kengeri. Some of the injured were identified as Gangamma (50), Asif Pasha (28), Ansar (33), Shafiullah (30), Sameer Khan (20), Abdul Mallik (28), Wahid (20), and Shankar (28).

The bus was coming to Bangalore from Kandipura, the police said. Another car hit Mr. Menon's vehicle from behind.

The occupants of the other car, who were travelling from Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh to Kozhikode, had a miraculous escape, the police said.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police have registered a case.
