Bail deferred for Bilkis rape accused
By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD,
MAY 1.
The Dahod sessions court has deferred till May 6 further hearing on the bail petition of all the 14 accused in the Bilkis Banoo gangrape and mass murder case.
During the hearing today, the advocate for the petitioners claimed that since the CBI had not questioned the accused any further and did not seem to have made any further progress in the investigation of the case, the accused should be granted bail.
The CBI at the behest of the Supreme Court is investigating into the Bilkis Banoo case on her complaint that she and other women were gangraped, and 14 of her family members murdered by a frenzied mob on a field in Panivel village during the communal riots in March, 2002. The CBI has charge-sheeted 20 people of which 14 have been arrested.
