15 killed in road accidents

MAHABUBNAGAR, MAY 8. In a ghastly road accident nine persons were killed and another person was injured critically when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck, near Miraspally village of Kothakota mandal, on National highway 7 in the wee hours of Saturday.

It is learnt that the victims were proceeding to Koppanur village in Weepangandla mandal to participate in a marriage function. One of the victims and brother of the bridegroom, S. Surender Reddy, a pharmaceutical distributor at Kukatpally in Hyderabad, along with some friends and relatives from Dattayapally village in Turkapally mandal in Nalgonda district was going to Koppanur. Around 2.30 the vehicle dashed against a truck coming in the opposite direction, resulting in the death of six persons on the spot. Three others succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital.

All the victims, aged between 23 and 26, are said to be bachelors. Vikaruddin, who received serious injuries, was struggling for life at Kurnool General Hospital.

The deceased were identified as G. Surender Reddy, J. Rajender Reddy (driver), Venkat Narasimha Reddy, Bhasker Reddy, Naveen, Someshwara Reddy, Shiva Kumar, Madhusudhan Reddy and K. Raju.

The bodies, after conducting post-mortem, were handed over to their relatives in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, according to a Khammam report, six persons were killed in two road accidents. Five members of a marriage party were killed when the van in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Tekulapalli village late on Friday night.

Twenty others were injured, five of them seriously. They were admitted to District Headquarters Hospital. They belonged to Kotha Tanda village.

In another mishap the driver of a jeep was killed when the vehicle overturned near Tirumalayapalem village in Khammam district.
