THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 15. The City Police today arrested three persons in connection with the attack on a hotel cashier at Vellayambalam on May 7. A police team led by the Museum Circle Inspector, Varghese, arrested the three accused. The first accused, Vineesh (21), and the second accused, Harish Babu (23), were nabbed from Vellayambalam, while the third accused, Sukesh (20), was picked up from his house at Muttathara. The police team also recovered the weapons used in the attack. All the three were produced in court and remanded to custody for 14 days. A case has been registered against Padmini, mother of Sukesh, for obstructing the police team, which arrived to arrest Sukesh from his house. The fifth accused in the case had landed in the police dragnet earlier. The car used by the assailants was also seized. The brutal attack by the armed gang had left the hotel cashier seriously injured. Youth arrested The police today arrested a 26-year- old man wanted in connection with the attack on a youth during the Kanhiravilakam temple festival at Pettah. The Pettah Circle Inspector, M. Iqbal, and his team nabbed Santhoshkumar alias Chandu from near the General Hospital. Police said Santhoshkumar was involved in several cases under the Pettah, Medical College and Vanchiyoor police station limits. He was produced in court and remanded to custody. Gambling racket busted The Fort Police today busted a major gambling racket in the city and arrested 17 persons in a raid on a gambling den, which also yielded Rs. 99,500. Acting on a tip-off, the Fort Sub Inspector, R. Rajkumar, and his team raided a room in a hotel complex where the gamblers had assembled. Police said the gamblers had recently shifted their venue to the city after their earlier hideout had come under police surveillance.
