IA sets another record
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MAY 17.
Close on the heels of a performance record set a fortnight ago, Indian Airlines reached yet another milestone when a record 27,956 passengers were ferried on its network out of the total 30,232 booked yesterday. On April 30, the State-owned carrier carried 27,350 passengers.
On December 23, 2000, the number of passengers carried touched 28,260. Last month, the airline carried an average of 22,339 passengers daily. The trend indicates buoyancy for the civil aviation sector as in the post 9/11 scenario the industry had slumped and IA was no exception. However, yesterday's performance was the best in the last three years.
According to IA sources, some of the factors responsible for the upward trend in the performance were promotional offers, wider choice of flight timings, increased capacity, additional flights and innovative schemes such as positional flight fares and flight specific fares.
