Mehbooba unlikely to join Union Cabinet

SRINAGAR, MAY 17. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, is not willing to be part of the Congress-led Government at the Centre and is keen on spending most of her time in the State, according to sources close to her.

Though the Congress high command apparently was not averse to offering a ministerial berth to her, Ms. Mehbooba is said to be reluctant to accept it. "She wants to continue her work for the party and in the first place was not interested in contesting the Lok Sabha elections," the sources said, adding "she has defined her role for State politics."
