AGP not for boycott
By Sushanta Talukdar
GUWAHATI,
MAY 17.
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will not boycott the swearing-in of Sonia Gandhi as Prime Minister.
Reacting to Bharatiya Janata Party's decision to boycott the swearing-in ceremony, the newly elected AGP MP from Dibrugarh, Sarbananda Sonowal, today told The Hindu that the party's central executive committee did not discuss the issue yesterday. Hence there was no question of boycotting the swearing-in ceremony.
"Our party has not taken any decision on the issue. Nor has any discussion taken place in the meeting of the central executive committee. Hence, there is no question of boycott... ," Mr. Sonowal said.
Besides, the party executive had also decided to maintain equidistance from both the Congress and the BJP, he said.
Mr. Sonowal is scheduled to leave for Delhi after resigning from the Assam Assembly.
