Punjab beats Bihar

KOLKATA, MAY 27. North Zone champion Punjab brightened its semifinal prospects beating host Bihar 2-0 in group `A' quarterfinal league match of the 13th National under-21 football for the M. Dutta Roy Trophy at the Jamalpur Railway Stadium in Bihar's Munger district, according to information received here.

Needing a win in the crucial group encounter, Punjab took control right from the start and found the opener in the 23rd minute through Amandeep Singh, who made the most of slip-shod defending by the host. With Bihar missing two clear scoring opportunities in the first session, Punjab built on the lead in the second session as Sunil Kumar scored with a powerful long-ranger in the 60th minute to settle the issue.
