State junior, sub-junior aquatic meet from today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 27. The cream of the talent in the State will be seen in action when the State sub-junior and junior aquatic meet gets underway at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Friday.

Nearly 350 swimmers from the 14 districts in the State will take part in the three-day meet. Competition will be held in five categories and in 108 events respectively.

However, competition in waterpolo will be restricted only to the junior category.

Host Thiruvananthapuram is the defending champion in both swimming and in waterpolo.

But the host will be hard-pressed to retain the title this time around as some of its star swimmers have graduated to senior category. Thrissur, Palakkad and Kottayam will pose a serious challenge to the host.

The State team for the National sub-junior and junior championship will be selected from this meet.
