North Zone dismissed for 181

BANGALORE, MAY 27. Leg spinner Piyush Chawla returned with figures of three for 41, helping Central Zone restrict North Zone to 181 in a Col. Hemu Adhikari Memorial tournament match that commenced at the IAF Ground here on Thursday.

At close, Central Zone was on 84 for three in reply.

Earlier, North Zone opted to bat but floundered as openers Mayank Tehlan and Shikar Dhawan fell to seamers Aswini Mandani and Anand Rajan. Spinners Piyush Chawla, Akshay Wakhre and Avinash Yadav then tightened the noose despite Gaurav Chabra's doughty 68. The Central Zone batsmen however failed to build upon their bowlers' efforts and the top-order caved in against seamer Abid Nadi and off-spinner Prem Prateek.

In another match that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Combined Zone posted 239 for five in 91 overs against East Zone.

Meanwhile, at the WAP Ground, South Zone was bowled out for 146 off 69.1 overs. West Zone's left-arm spinner Ajinkya Joshi, who bagged five wickets for 33, was the wrecker-in-chief. At close, West, powered by C. Pujar's 67, reached 117 for two in 29 overs.

The scores: North Zone 181 in 65.2 overs (Gaurav Chabra 68, Abid Nadi 25, Piyush Chawla three for 41) vs Central Zone 84 for three in 28 overs.

Combined Zone 239 for five in 91 overs (Gaurav Sharma 67, Bikash Patil 63, Mahesh Rawat 48, Sanjay Bharati 36 n.o.) vs East Zone.

South Zone 146 in 69.1 overs (A. Srikkanth 48, Ryan Ninan 40, Pawan Gargi 25, Ajinkya Joshi five for 33) vs West Zone 117 for two in 29 overs (C. Pujar 67).
