CHENNAI, MAY 29. The Congress Jananayaga Peravai (CJP) has convened a meeting of its executive committee and general council here for June 5, following the victory of its founder, P.Chidambaram, who contested on the Congress ticket in the general elections and his taking over as Finance Minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre. A meeting of State and district-level leaders held at the party headquarters here today, expressed the party's ``heartfelt gratitude'' to the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, for having led the Congress to a ``massive victory''. It also expressed its appreciation of her gesture in allowing Mr. Chidambaram to contest as a candidate of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in Sivaganga, says a release issued by the State convener, M.N.Kandasamy. The meeting expressed its happiness over Manmohan Singh taking over as Prime Minister. The CJP thanked the constituents of the DPA the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Congress, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Pattali Makkal Katchi, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Union Muslim League , besides the Akila India Moovendhar Munnetra Munnani and the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam which supported the alliance. Addressing a press conference later, Mr. Chidambaram said he had enrolled himself as a member of the Congress and filed his nomination from Sivaganga as a candidate of that party. The future of the CJP would be decided by his ``friends'' in the Peravai, who would meet on June 5, he said.
