Chidambaram calls on Karunanidhi

CHENNAI, MAY 29. The Union Finance Minister, P.Chidambaram, today called on the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, at his residence here. The half-hour meeting was described as a courtesy call.

Asked about the meeting, Mr.Karunanidhi said it was out of friendship and courtesy that Mr.Chidambaram came to meet him.

Mr.Chidambaram said he had met Mr.Karunanidhi in New Delhi. This was the first time he came to Tamil Nadu after taking over as Finance Minister in the United Progressive Alliance Government. Mr.Karunanidhi was also the leader of the Democratic Progressive Alliance here.

Hence he called on the DMK chief.

Asked about the MDMA (Multidisciplinary Monitoring Agency) probe into Rajiv assassination, Mr.Karunanidhi said he did not want to comment on it.

Queried further, he said the DMK did not have an opinion on its continuance or winding up.
