CHENNAI, MAY 29. The general secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Vaiko, today clarified that he had not made any demand for lifting the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Talking to The Hindu, he said that in a reply to a question from a reporter of a television news channel he had merely stated that in his view, there was no need for a ban on the LTTE in the present circumstances. But he had not made any demand or request to lift the ban. The Centre might not accept his view, he pointed out. However, it was possible that over a period of time, the Centre might change its view on this issue in the context of the peace talks in Sri Lanka, he added.
