MYSORE, JUNE 5. The Central Board of Excise and Customs has introduced e-filing of excise returns, which will become operational from June 30. In a press release, the Additional Commissioner, Meenaxi Passi, said electronic filing of excise returns was similar to electronic filing of service tax returns. The facility would help a large number of people who filed the excise returns as it would make the process hassle-free, she added. The web-based facility allowed filing of returns online. Ms. Passi urged those who filed excise returns to utilise the facility so that the data could be registered without any loss of time. She pointed out that those who filed the returns and registered dealers, who had been allotted a 15-digit excise control code, were entitled to avail themselves of the facility. Those who had not been allotted the excise control code should submit an application in the prescribed format to the jurisdictional Assistant Commissioner/Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise, indicating their email ID and postal address for communication. The user login, ID, and password would be communicated to the email ID or the address, she said.
