MYSORE, JUNE 5. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Mysore, has ordered the Mysore City Corporation and the Vanivilas Waterworks to pay damages to a consumer for deficient service. In a press release, the Akhila Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat said H. Mallikarjuna Swamy was issued a bill for Rs. 1351.50 by the Vanivilas Waterworks and the corporation. However, when the consumer sought an explanation from the authorities concerned as to how they had arrived at the sum, there was no response from the latter, the release said. Hence, Mr. Swamy approached the forum, which heard both the parties. The release said that the forum discovered that the bill issued to the complainant was full of mistakes. It also noted that the corporation and the Vanivilas Waterworks had refused to give proper replies, though the complainant had invoked the provisions of the Karnataka Right to Information Act and hence ruled that the two bodies were guilty of providing deficient service. It directed them to pay Rs. 2,000 as damages to the consumer within two months failing which the said amount would carry an interest of 12 per cent a year from the date of the issue of its orders.
