BELGAUM, JUNE 28. A pall of gloom descended on the city following the death of the Deputy Commissioner, B.S. Palaksha, in a road accident near Dobbspet on Tumkur-Bangalore National Highway on Sunday night. Mr. Palaksha, who could not get an air ticket to go to Bangalore chose to travel by car. He had availed himself of three days leave to spend time with his family in Bangalore. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter. Mr. Palaksha, who assumed charge as Deputy Commissioner on February 14, 2003, was known for his humility and was easily accessible. The news of his death shocked people here. The Superintendent of Police, Sunil Agarwal, broke down on hearing the news. Those who paid tributes to Mr. Palaksha included the Mayor, Sambhaji Patil, the Belgaum Zilla Panchayat President, S.S. Doddagoudar, its Vice-President, Tejasvini Nayakwadi, and senior government officials. Our Chitradurga Staff Correspondent reports The mortal remains of Mr. Palaksha were brought here on Monday evening. The body has been kept at his residence. A large number of people, including Shivamurthy Murugharajendra Sharanaru, seer of Chitradurga Murugha Math, M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner, and G.B. Chebbi, Superintendent of Police, paid their last respects. According to family sources, the body will be taken to Banagere, his native village, which is 60 km from here, for the last rites. Our Special Correspondent reports from Bangalore: The Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, has expressed shock over the death of Mr. Palaksha. In a message, the Governor said Mr. Palaksha was in the prime of his life and had a long and promising career ahead of him in public service. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, today visited the residence of Mr. Palaksha. In a message, the Chief Minister said Mr. Palaksha was an able officer.
