HYDERABAD, JUNE 29. Bowing to the demand from the treasury and Opposition benches in the Assembly, the Government today agreed to pass a resolution for setting up a Supreme Court Bench in the State Capital. Replying to a spate of supplementaries during question hour, the Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, said the Government would consult all parties before drafting and moving the resolution. He said the resolution would be sent to the Chief Justice of India and the Centre. Earlier, he told K. Ramulu (Janata Party) that in 2001 the Government had written to the Law Ministry suggesting that an Apex Court Bench should be set up here. The Parliamentary Standing Committee had also requested for it. He assured that the Government would consider the request of members for setting up a High Court Bench at Guntur.
Re-look at IT Park pact
During question hour, the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, said the Government would examine afresh the agreement for setting up Vizag IT Park in the light of doubts expressed by members that special concessions were given to Larsen and Toubro. Answering the main query, the Municipal Administration Minister, K. Ranga Rao, said the Visakhapatnam Urban development Authority (VUDA) was a shareholder with 21.5 per cent equity. Other shareholders were the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) with an investment of Rs.4.40 crores, L&T Infocity and Pragna and Sai, each with an investment of Rs.2.34 crores. He admitted that the land was given at Rs.2,000 per square yard when the market value was Rs.7,000. When G. Venkata Reddy, supported by P. Janardhana Reddy and R. Damodar Reddy (all Congress), sought to know whether the land was given at Rs.1,500-Rs.2,000 when the value ranged between Rs.15,000 and Rs.20,000, Mr. Rosaiah intervened and assured that the issue would be examined afresh.
