Vasan criticises Jayalalithaa for not attending Delhi meet

CHENNAI, JUNE 29. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, has criticised the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, for not attending the Panchayat Raj meeting convened by the Prime Minister in New Delhi today.

In a statement here, Mr. Vasan said it was the first ever Chief Ministers' conference convened by the Prime Minister to find out how best panchayat raj could be effectively implemented. It was the duty of every Chief Minister to participate and express his/her opinion. It was unfortunate that Ms. Jayalalithaa did not participate in the meeting which only showed her "scant respect" for the welfare of rural people.
