Thirunagar HC pips TNEB

TIRUNELVELI, JULY 1. Thirunagar Hockey Club, Madurai, entered the quarterfinals of the fourth Kandasamy memorial trophy State-level invitation hockey tournament with a 3-2 win over Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Chennai, at VOC Hockey Stadium, Palayamkottai, here on Thursday.

Ponraj (fourth minute), Sathyaseelan (20th) and Vasanthakumar (30th) scored for Thirunagar Hockey Club, while Sureshkumar (11th), Ganesamurthy (33rd) found the target for TNEB.

Michael scored the winner in the 53rd minute as Reserve Bank of India, Chennai, defeated Central Excise, Chennai, to make the quarterfinals.

Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, also made the last eight stage with a 4-0 win over Rajiv Gandhi Hockey Club, Kovilpatti. Paul Pandy (12th minute), Hayath (17th) Vinoth Kumar (19th), Raja (36th) scored for ICF.

Central Excise, Chennai, beat SSOS, Sankari (Salem), 2-0 with goals coming from Saravanan (third) and Somuraj (30th).
