Facile win for SAI

BANGALORE, JULY 1 . Sports Authority of India scored a facile 3-0 win over Karnataka State Police in the first match of the third phase of the V Karunakaran and D.S Murthy memorial trophy inter-club hockey tournament. The SAI boys dominated throughout the match with Varun opening up the scoring for his side in the 26th minute. Raghunath then slotted home a brace with the first of his goals coming off a penalty stroke (30th) and following it up with a penalty corner conversion in the 53rd minute. The State police team frittered away 12 scoring chances off penalty corners awarded to it.

Bharat Electronics Limited qualified for the third phase with a 3-1 win over Rainbow Hockey Club. Chetan Krishna was spot on target with two penalty corner conversions (10th and 27th) and Venkatesh contributed with a fine effort in the 29th minute for the winner. Rainbow's only scorer was Ritesh who found the target in the 28th minute. All the scoring action was in the first half of the match.

With the conclusion of Pool `A's second phase matches, Vasu (Hubli) progressed to the third phase as Postal and Reserve Bank of India played out a 4-4 draw. Taranath (5th, pc), Nachappa (17th), Nagraj (46th) and Mudappa (52nd, pc) scored for Postal while Kevin (10th), Tanu Nanjappa (21st pc), Roshan (45th pc) and Suresh (48th) were the scorers for Reserve Bank of India.
