A few tips to golfers

BANGALORE, JULY 1. A handy tip to golfers at the Karnataka Golf Association was unveiled at the course by D. Preetam Basappa, President of KGA, here on Tuesday. A 6ft-4ft poster, which humourously depicts the golden rules of the game as well as golfing etiquette and sponsored by AirTel, has been put up adjacent to the first hole.

The poster is a back-lit, two-sided version which can be illuminated. Golfers waiting to tee off can spend time looking at the poster to refresh their memory on the golden rules of the game.

The poster — Golf Art — has been conceptualised by Bangalorebest. The poster is 90 per cent to scale and has the entire topography of the course serving largely as a guide map to the various holes. Caricatures are used to describe the rules, such as a man on the 17th hole busy talking on his mobile under a caption which reads `avoid using mobile phones.'

Another golfer has his head almost immersed in the water body on the 17th with the caption `a player should not spend more than five minutes looking for a lost ball.' A brief write-up about golf in India and the KGA is also mentioned on the poster.

Prior to the unveiling of the poster and the release of a miniature version by Deepak Mehrotra, COO, AirTel (Karnataka), there was a putting competition in which 150 club members took part.

The winner was the Zafar Ahmed-Kumar Abhimanyu duo with a score of 16 nett. S. N. Rao and S.S. Nadig (17 nett) were second while R. C. Mirchandaney and N. C. Mehta (17.75 nett) finished third. — Our Special Correspondent
