Coimbatore, Madurai have it easy

COIMBATORE, JULY 2. Host Coimbatore DCA and Madurai DCA registered comfortable wins over their respective opponents in the TNCA under-17 inter district cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy played at various venues here on Friday.

At the Forest College grounds, Coimbatore cruised past Erode by seven wickets. All thanks to K.N. Soundarmani, who picked four wickets for 25 runs. Erode was bundled out for 78 in 34.4 overs. In reply, the host scored the required runs in 29.2 overs.

At the TNAU grounds, Pondicherry batted first and set a target of 157 in 44 overs. Madurai found the going pretty easy with skipper Sivaraman contributing a valuable unbeaten 72.

At Coimbatore: Pondicherry DCA 157 in 44 overs (Sathish 28, Sathay Saroopan 27, Adithya three for 23, Chidambaram three for 31) lost to Madurai DCA 158 for two in 38.1 overs (Sivaraman 72 n.o., Ram Kumar 38).

Erode DC 78 in 34.4 overs (Soundarmani four for 25) lost to Coimbatore DCA 80 for three in 29.2 overs (Imran Khan 25 n.o.).

At Sivakasi: Vellore 288 in 50 overs (Barathan 102, Srinivasan 84, Thabarak 31, Shyam Kamalesh three for 45) bt Virudhunagar 130 in 21.5 overs (Thabarak four for 53, Ramesh four for 30).

Ramanathapuram 142 in 46 overs (Manikandan 54, D. Rajesh three for 23) lost to Theni 144 for one in 30.4 overs (D. Rajesh 31 not out, R.M. Lakshman Narayan 31, S.P. Saravanakumar 36 not out).

At Nagapattinam: Thanjavur 112 for nine in 50 overs (Rohit three for 16) bt Nilgiris 87 in 42.4 overs (Siddarth three for 18).

Dharmapuri 224 in 48.2 overs (Charanraj 57, Thajeshkumar 30, Mushtaq Ahmed five for 34, Rajkumar three for 44) bt Nagapattinam 182 in 46.2 overs (Sri Rudhran 31, Thirupathy three for 31).

At Chennai: Tiruvallur 195 in 49.1 overs (J. Prasanth 26, S. Venkatvasan 69) bt Thoothukudi 64 in 40 overs (M. Deepak four for 5).

Sivagangai 117 in 28 overs (R. Karthik four for 25, S. Vigneshwar three for 13) bt Karur 50 in 23.4 overs (R. Venkat Raman four for 13).
