NEW DELHI, JULY 2. After over 100 years of existence, the Indian amateur golf tour has found a sponsor in Royal Challenge. The Indian Golf Union's National amateur golf tour will be known as Royal Challenge Indian Golf Tour, marking a new era for amateur golf in the country. The first tournament of the 2004-05 season, Jaypee Open, tees off at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort in Greater Noida from July 13 to 16. The season concludes with the all-India amateur tournament at the Delhi Golf Club course here from February 26 to March 5. Besides the regular tournaments, the new sponsor has planned to add spice to the Tour. Like pro-ams at the professional tournaments, `Handicap Golf Challenge' will be staged at each venue. The top player in each handicap category, 7-12, 13-18, 19 and above, will get a certificate from the IGU and a trophy.
Jaypee Open: Greater Noida, July 13-16; Northern India Open: New Delhi, July 20-23; Eagleton amateur tournament: Bangalore, Aug. 10-13; South India Open: Bangalore, Aug. 17-20; Samarvir Sahi amateur tournament: Chandigarh, Oct. 5-8; Classic Open: Gurgaon, Oct. 12-15; Blue Diamond Open: Nov. 9-12; Inter-zonal tournament: Jamshedpur, Dec. 8-12; RCGC Open: Kolkata, Dec. 14-17; Eastern India amateur tournament: Kolkata, Dec. 19-25; Western India amateur tournament: Mumbai, Jan. 4-7; All-India amateur tournament: New Delhi, Feb. 26-March 5.
