BANGALORE, JULY 3. Karnataka State Police redeemed itself with a 4-1 victory over Central Excise in the V. Karunakaran and D.S. Murthy memorial all-India inter-club hockey tournament here on Saturday. KSP had lost its earlier fixture against Sports Authority of India. The match was unproductive till the 31st minute when Mohan Rao directed the ball in with a strong hit off a penalty corner push. Anup Antony brought Central Excise back into the game with a goal in the very next minute but the State police took the initiative and held sway for the rest of the match. Laxman Rao proved to be nippy and slotted home two goals (37th and 59th) and in the interim Roshan Madappa also added his name to the scorers' tally in the 44th minute. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited notched up its second successive win with a hard-fought 2-1 success over Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Len Aiyappa fired in a penalty corner strike in the seventh minute and Amar Aiyamma scored a peach of a goal in the 28th minute. HAL's M.D. Chinappa reduced the margin in the 32nd minute. In the first match of the day, Sports Authority of India and Army Supply Corps played out a 2-2 draw. Pradeep Singh put ASC ahead off a penalty corner hit in the 32nd minute but Bharat levelled the scores seven minutes later. It was SAI's turn to take the lead in the 46th minute. However Abhinav Ganapathy produced the equaliser within a span of two minutes. There will be only two matches on Sunday.
