Adams takes 2-1 lead, moves closer to final

TRIPOLI (LIBYA), JULY 4. Grandmaster Michael Adams of England made a decisive ride forward for his maiden berth in the World chess championship final after drawing with Grandmaster Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan in the third game here on Saturday.

Adams thus took his lead to an unassailable 2-1 in the four-game match and now just needs to draw the final game as white to proceed to the final.

In Veselin Topalov-Rustam Kasimdzhanov match, the Uzbek grandmaster opened with King pawn e4, to which Topalov replied with c5.

After some early exchanges and Kasimdzhanov's attempted double check, the game progressed by and large on expected lines.

Playing white, Kasimdzhanov went all out against the Bulgarian but Topalov matched a perfect game with a dour defence and the game ended in a tame draw.— Agencies
