THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 4. Five meet records, including three long-standing records, were erased as the curtains came down on the 48th State senior athletic meet at the University stadium here on Sunday. Twenty-five year old T. D. Rajesh Kumar of Thiruvananthapuram set the trend by breaking 26-year old record in 110m hurdles. The KSEB employee was the first to get off the blocks and led from start-to-finish to clock 14.70s and obliterated M. C. Varghese's old mark 14.80s (which was equalised by Sunny Joseph in 1987) set in 1978. Another impressive winner was V. V. Geeshkumar (Ernakulam), who cleared 4.75m in pole vault to improve on M. A. Eldho's old mark (4.70m) set in 1995. CRPF jawan from Thiruvananthapuram Sathish broke the 13-year-old record in hammer throw with a 55.97m effort in his third try and broke T. Singh's old record (49.86) set in 1991.incy Philip of Thrissur braved the worn out runway to set a new record (12.76m) in women's triple jump and pushed the exisiting record holder Shanas Sulaiman to the second spot. Shanas's old record stood at 12.68m. The day's final record was set by R. Jisha in pole vault as she cleared 2.80m to improve her own mark (2.30m) set last year. Kottayam retained the overall title with 191 points. Pathanamthitta (137) and Thrissur (97) finished second and third.
