CHENNAI, JULY 4. Left-hander Badri Attavar's unbeaten 101 (252b, 8x4) enabled Mambalam Mosquitos gain the first innings lead over SPIC on the third and final day of the first round matches in the SPIC-TNCA first division league at various venues on Sunday. Replying to SPIC's 337, Mosquitos, resuming at 61 for two, finished at 352 for six at stumps. Attavar and wicketkeeper Reuben Paul (73, 113b, 9x4) added 122 runs in 38.3 overs for the sixth wicket. Vijay CC managed to hold defending champion Jolly Rovers, sharing six points in the process. Resuming at 18 for three and chasing Rovers' 466 for the lead, Vijay survived the day, finishing at 173 for eight. The notable stand for Vijay was between S. Sharath (76, 236b, 10x4) and J.R. Madanagopal (35, 148b, 3x4) who put on 77 runs for the fourth wicket. IOB staged a valiant battle for first innings honours against SICAL. Resuming at 173 for three, IOB came within striking distance of SICAL's 347, thanks to a 78-run eighth wicket stand between Shahabuddin (42, 77b, 3x4) and Petson Mathew (44, 64b, 5x4).
However, with Shahabudin falling to medium-pacer V. Yomahesh, IOB's resistance broke and it was eventually dismissed for 327.
The second round begins on July 8.

SICAL 347 in 117.2 overs & 48 for two in 21 overs drew with IOB 327 in 94.4 overs (Noorul Riaz 51, Y. Gyneshwar Rao 80, A.S.K. Verma 43, K.S. Shahabuddin 42, Petson Mathew 44, V. Yomahesh three for 54, Sunny Gupta three for 93) at Viveka SICAL. SICAL 5 pts; IOB 2 pts.
Alwarpet CC 261 in 108 overs & 115 for six in 55 overs (M. Vijay 26, R. Srinivasan 41 not out, S. Senthil Kumar three for 32) drew with Parry's 245 in 100.5 overs (Jaya Chandra 73, Noor Md. Khan 47, M.K. Sivakumar 31, N. Raghavendran 34 , D. Vasu three for 52, Huzefa M Patel four for 52) at IIT-Chemplast. Alwarpet: 5 pts; Parry's 2 pts.
Jolly Rovers 465 for seven decl. in 144.5 overs drew with Vijay CC 173 for eight in 116 overs (J.R. Madanagopal 35, S. Sharath 76, Tinu Yohanan four for 56, Kulamani Parida three for 40), at ICL-GNC. Vijay: 3 pts; Jolly Rovers: 3 pts.
