McAndrew-Cole duo triumphs

BANGALORE, JULY 5. Joe McAndrew and co-driver Murray Cole emerged winners in the gruelling London-Sydney Marathon Rally, which concluded at the Circular Quay West in Sydney on Sunday (July 4). McAndrew and Cole were in a Honda Integra Type R.

Team Honda made a sweep of the top three places with Mike Montgomery and Roy Wilson finishing second and Shane Murland with co-driver John Benton finishing third.

McAndrew incidentally had won the Midnight Sun to Red Sea Marathon (Sweden to Jordan) in 2002, making him a champion of the long distance roads. McAndrew and Cole won 28 of the 49 stages that the rally traversed over a distance of 10,000 miles.

The dimunitive Joy Rainey, who was a big attraction in India for her courageous effort, finished 21st in the Clowes Cup event.
