By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JULY 5. Up and coming Jishnu Sanyal, a Thane boy, caused a flutter on Monday when he ousted top-seeded T. Dinesh of Andhra Pradesh to enter the under-19 boys' singles final of the Krishna Khaitan memorial all-India junior badminton tournament at the Nehru indoor stadium. In a clash between two left-handers, Jishnu showed his resilience by coming back from a game down to dismantle his rival's plans with a mix of caution and aggression. Dinesh is known for his fighting qualities and remembers the indoor courts where he had some memorable contests in the previous editions but all his prowess could not take him beyond a game. Jishnu was quick on his returns and cleverly read the rival's wristy taps to back court. Of course, the tenth-standard student, playing in his first under-19 event, knew that Dinesh, who had a gruelling semifinal against State-mate B. Krishnakumar in the morning, was not at his best fitness level. Still it required unflagging concentration for Jishnu to win his points. And sure enough Jishnu did not disappoint his coach Srikant Vad. In the final he will meet second-seeded Anand Pawar, who sailed past Sagar Chopra with ease. In the girls' section, Kerala's Aparna Balan will face Aditi Mutatkar in the final. For Aparna the passage was easy but Aditi, coming back from a phase of injury, struggled to overwhelm higher seeded Sayali Ghokle. In the morning Aditi had accounted for second-seeded Saradha Govardini. Aditya Elango, a local aspirant, promised much in the under-16 section but Samruth Rathod, despite losing a game, was able to wrap up the match. Almost similar was the experience for another Tamil Nadu player S. Darsinee against Andhra's Laxmi Priyanka in the under-13 section.
