CHENNAI,
JULY 5.
The Manava Seva Kendra conferred the "Sangeetha Saraswathi Award" on eminent Carnatic musician M.S. Subbalakshmi in Bangalore on June 25.
The award was received by K.R. Athmanathan (on behalf of the musician) from the kendra founder, Sri Guruji Viswanath. The occasion was the 52nd birthday celebrations of Sri Guruji Viswanath.
In deference to the wishes of the legendary musician, the kendra gave the monetary part of the award, Rs. 25,000, to the Mani Mandapam project of the Kanchi Parmacharya, Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, at Orirukkai village.
