HAVERI, JULY 5. Two farmers are reported to have committed suicide in Haveri district. Hullappa Ramappa Jadar (40) of Kulimelihalli in Savanur taluk, who was in debt, ended his life by consuming pesticide on Saturday, the police said. Hullappa, who had two and a half acres of land, owed Rs. 25,000 to a local primary agricultural cooperative society. He had also taken loans from other sources. He could not raise the crop last year because of failure of rains and this year he did not have the money to start agricultural operations, the police said. Hanumanth Parvatagowda Patil (49) of Kankanwadi village in Shiggaon taluk was also reported to have committed suicide for similar reasons on Friday night. He was taken to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in Hubli after he consumed pesticide, but he could not be saved. He owned two acres of land and owed Rs. 75,000 to two banks, the police said.
