BANGALORE, JULY 5. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has drawn up plans to experiment with outsourcing recovery of dues in Bangalore, the Principal General Manager of Bangalore Telecom Circle, P. Ganesh, has said. He told presspersons here on Monday that BSNL landline and mobile phone customers owed Rs. 126 crores to it. Tenders had been invited from debt recovery agents, banks and financial institutions to take up the work, he said. The pilot project would be tried for six months with landline customers who owed Rs. 91 crores, he said. Mobile phone customers using BSNL's CellOne post-paid service owed Rs. 35 crores, K. Chandrashekar, Manager (Mobile Services), said. BSNL hoped to issue 1.5 lakh pre-paid SIM cards in phases starting by the end of this month when an "intelligent network platform" being set up in Hyderabad covering Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka would become operational, Mr. Chandrashekar said. BSNL had 3.59 lakh mobile phone customers in the State of which two lakh were pre-paid service users. On landline connections, a discount of up to 60 per cent would be given to users of leased lines, Mr. Ganesh said. Three customer service centres in central areas such as Jayanagar and Rajajinagar would be open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on all working days. Cash payments could be made up to 7 p.m. and payment through cheques/demand drafts till 8 p.m., he added.
