Zahira moves court

MUMBAI,
JULY 5.
Zahira Sheikh, key witness in the Best Bakery case, has approached the Supreme Court for clarification on the appointment of a Public Prosecutor in the case following which the re-trial was today adjourned to July 19.
Both, Maharashtra and Gujarat remained firm on appointing a Public Prosecutor in the case. They expressed their intention to do so at a meeting held in Mumbai last Friday, as per a suggestion made earlier by the Additional Sessions Judge, Abhay Thipasy.
Senior lawyer P R Vakil, who was appointed Special Public Prosecutor by the Maharashtra Government, appearing for the first time today, submitted the minutes of the meeting in court and informed the judge that no consensus was arrived at the meeting. Mihir Desai, counsel for Zahira, informed the court that they had approached the Supreme Court on the matter seeking instructions. UNI
