Rathore claims gold

NEW DELHI, JULY 6. Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore shot the double trap gold in the Asian Clay Pigeon championship in Bangkok on Tuesday.

The bronze medallist of the last World Championship, Rathore shot a 175 out of 200 including a 43 in the final to bag the gold. Moraad Ali Khan and Ronjan Sodhi who missed the final on a shoot-off between four shooters on 128, helped the Indian team win the gold with a 388 out of 450. Chinese Taipei was second with a 382 while Qatar had to be content with the bronze at 373. Rathore had a series of 44, 46 and 42 in the preliminary phase while Moraad, who had helped him win the Commonwealth Games pairs gold two years ago, had a series of 44, 40 and 44. Ronjan was consistent with a series of 42, 44 and 42.

The individual silver went to Shie Wei Tin of Chinese Taipei who followed a 131 with a 43 in the nerve-wracking final when the gold eluded him by one point. Alu Ruwaie Hammad of Kuwait led the finalists with a 135 but could muster only a 38 in the final for the bronze.
