BANGALORE, JULY 6. Madras Engineering Group's havaldar Alex Thomas, representing the Army Red, created a new meet record in the triple jump event on the opening day of the 54th Services Atheltics championship at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here this morning. The youngster leapt to a distance of 15.69m, erasing the earlier mark of 15.61m. K.C. Saintison, also from the Madras Sappers stable, wearing the Army Red colours, finished a distant second with 15.19m. Another notable performance was Indian Navy's Jagmohan's heave of 71.96m in the javelin throw, pushing international Fazal Ansari to the second place.
