PUTTUR, JULY 6. The Puttur Taluk Sahakari Sangagala Okkoota has urged the State Government to fix the minimum support price (MSP) for arecanut at Rs. 85 a kg as against Rs. 60 a kg now. It said the production cost for Mangalore Chali variety of arecanut was Rs. 61.30. A press release from the okkoota president, A. Jeevan Bhandary, here stated that a delegation of arecanut growers, led by the President of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank, M.N. Rajendra Kumar, would meet the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and submit a memorandum in this regard. The Government should declare a support price in line with the "Kerala model". The okkota said the Government should set up a nodal agency to procure arecanut.
