DAVANGERE, JULY 6. The Lokayukta, N. Venkatachala, who finished his seven-day tour of Davangere here today, said he would instruct the district-level offices of the Lokayukta to arrest corrupt officials. He told presspersons that during his tour of districts, he had not taken harsh steps against the officials, and had only warned them. "Even after the warning if they fail to set themselves right, they will have to face the music,'' he said. Earlier, Mr. Venkatachala visited the hostels, Regional Transport Office, Chigateri General Hospital, District Health Office and municipal office, and examined the documents there. He found misappropriation of funds at the health and municipal offices. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to suspend a clerk each at the two offices. Complaints were received from people about widespread corruption at the RTO. They said the officials demanded Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 for giving driving licence.
