BANGALORE, JULY 7. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) continued its winning spree in the V. Karunakaran & D.S. Murthy memorial all-India inter-club hockey tournament with a 10-5 victory over Canara Bank. The defeat for Canara Bank meant that PCTC progressed to the fourth and final phase, which is a league-cum-knockout format. Six new teams enter the tournament in the fourth phase with direct seedings. The teams are Indian Bank (Chennai), Southern Railway (Chennai), Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai), Kerala XI, Army XI and MEG. Penalty corner specialist Len Aiyappa slotted home three goals for BPCL starting in the second minute and continued in the 22nd and 30th minutes. Nippy forward Amar Aiyamma had a quartet (12th, 38th, 50th and 56th) and Sabu Varkey (15th), Ajay Saroha (52nd) and K.T. Mohan (61st) added to the tally. Canara Bank scored through Apanna (21st and 65th), John Verghese (43rd and 69th) and Kaveriappa (29th). In the first match of the day, HAL swamped Vasu (Hubli) 12-0. Anil Anand slotted home four (23rd, 32nd, 42nd and 45th) while Nanaiah (20th, 36th), Dominic Savio (21st, 23rd) and Kani Kamal (40th, 48th) had a brace each. P.T Aiyappa (3rd) and Deepak Akash (16th) also scored for HAL. Army Supply Corps defeated Karnataka State Police 3-1 with Asif Ali scoring off a penalty corner (12th) and Harpreet scoring off a penalty stroke (51st) and Abhinav Ganapathy (58th) sounding the boards. KSP's Lakshman Rao scored in the 53rd minute.
