Asia Central Zone men's meet cancelled

VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 8. The inaugural Asia Central Zone men's volleyball meet has been cancelled.

This has thoroughly disappointed the organisers who have almost completed the arrangements.

The meet, scheduled to be held here from July 13 to 18, was cancelled after Pakistan too decided to pull out owing to injuries suffered by its main players. Iran had withdrawn earlier. This left only Kazkhstan, Uzbekistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka apart from host India in the fray. With two of the top teams not taking part, it was decided to cancel the tournament.

The secretary general of the Volleyball Federation of India, K. Murugan, in a message sent to the president of the organising committee, S. Kodandaramiah, said that the VFI was compelled to cancel the tournament, and deeply regretted and apologised to the organising committee which had made all arrangements.

Mr. Murugan hoped that Visakhapatnam would host the World junior men's championship next year. — Our Staff Reporter
