Bangalore to host Rotax Max Indian Challenge Series

BANGALORE, JULY 8. There are only two circuits in the country, which are over a kilometre long, the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and the Speedzone Karting track in Whitefield, near Bangalore. Thus the Rotax Max Indian Challenge Series is confined to these two tracks. The Rotax Max Karts can rev up to more than 130kmph in quick time making it mandatory for the tracks to be long enough to support these karts.

With two rounds of the Challenge series completed in Coimbatore, the action shifts to Speedzone where cadets, juniors and seniors will race their very own karts to garner enough points for the all-India championship. Winners in the junior and senior category will earn a sponsorship from Rotax to participate in the World Rotax Max Championship to be held in Spain in 2005. Last year's World Championship was held in Egypt and Armaan Ebrahim had to travel and race in Malaysia to gain an entry for the World Series.

The Indian Challenge Series will have a qualifying session, two heats which will decide the grid positions, one pre-final and a final. The cadet and junior events will be run over 15 and 20 laps while the seniors will run over 25 laps.

After the completion of two rounds of the championship in Coimbatore, Rayomand Banajee leads the points tally in the seniors section, with a total of 86 points, Deepak Chinappa is close behind with 80.5 points and Sharan Parake lies third with 78 points. In the junior section Armaan Ebrahim (88) has a slender lead over Aditya Akineni (85.5) and Aditya Patel (80) occupies the third spot.

For the first time in karting an Endurance Race will also be conducted. The endurance race will be a two-man team affair with each member racing at least one lap. The race will make provisions for pit stops for refuelling and change of tyres giving the youngsters a feel of an F1 race.
