Lehal in the van

NEW DELHI, JULY 15. Sandy Lehal made back-to-back birdies to hang on to a slender one-stroke lead after the third round of the Jaypee Open IGU-categorised amateur golf tournament at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort in Greater Noida on Thursday.

Lehal birdied the par-four 16th and the par-five 17th to bury his double-bogey on the second hole and carded a round of one-under par 71. Lehal's three-round aggregate was six-under 210. Jaskirat Singh Dullet was close on Lehal's heels with a score of 211.

Simarjeet Singh leapfrogged the leaderboard with the best round of the day — a 70. His opening round on Tuesday, 76, had left him in the sludge, but he recovered with rounds of 71 and 70.

The scores: Sandy Lehal (70, 69, 71) 210; Jaskirat Singh Dullet (70, 70, 71) 211; Simarjeet Singh (76, 71, 70) 217; Jasjeet Singh (72, 73, 73) 218; Keshav Mishra (75, 71, 73) 219; Chirag Kumar (73, 74, 73) 220; Gaganjit Bhullar (78, 72, 71) and Vikrant Chopra (71, 75, 75) 221.
