Toilet plan designed

Gramalaya, a secular non-political rural organisation here for socio-economic development, has designed a toilet pan that is made of polypropylene plastic material with the support of WaterAid India Office, New Delhi.

A release from the organisation's executive director, S. Damodaran, said the toilet pan was made as per the international standard and affordable by all.

The water seal is specially designed like gooseneck where little water is enough to flush the toilet pan which is easy to install in the rural areas with little masons help. The toilet pan was installed at the Gramalaya Toilet Technology Centre and field tested for its usage and maintenance. It was found that very little water was required to flush and hence cleaning and maintaining of the pan was very easy, the release further said.

The organisation has proposed to introduce these toilet pans soon in New Delhi with WaterAid India Office assistance and in Chennai with the help of State Rural Sanitation Society, Chennai.
