Rice scam: bail pleas posted to July 27

BANGALORE, JULY 20. The Karnataka High Court posted to July 27 the bail petitions by 23 persons, all accused in the multicrore rice diversion racket.

The petitioners said they were not involved in the rice scam and cases were being foisted on them. They said they had applied for bail as they feared arrest.

The petitioners were H.P. Jinaraju, District Manager, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation; G.C. Ramana, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), zilla panchayat (ZP), Aloor sub-division; A.N. Chandrashekar, Nanjappa Gowda, K. Mallesh Gowda, T. Krishna Kumar, A Shivananda, Rame Gowda, T.R. Prakash, K. Ramesh, Sambashivaiah, Venkatesh, Kale Gowda, K.S. Kumar, M. Rajgopal, Lakshmikanth K.R, Satish Chandra, Mallesh S.C. Prabhakar Gupta K.N. and Nagaraj, all from Hassan; and S. Madhavan from Mangalore.

Justice A.C. Kabbin posted the matter to July 27.

The same judge posted to July 27 an application for bail by M. Sriramulu of Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district.

The authorities had caught Mr. Sriramulu while he was allegedly transporting in a lorry rice meant for the public distribution system (PDS).

Justice S.R. Bannurmath posted to Friday an application by Sharp Menthol of Delhi urging the court to modify its order.

The court had allowed the criminal revision petition by Sharp Menthol.

Two other companies, Guru Binny Rice Mill and Mittal Agro, have also petitioned the High Court against the seizure of rice. The case has also been posted to Friday.
