Uttaranchal

DEHRA DUN, JULY 28. Six persons were killed when debris from a landslide hit a Yatri shed at Yamunotri last night. The landslides, sparked off by heavy rains over the past few days, have spelt disaster on many roads in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Tehri districts, reports received here said. In Uttarkashi, debris from Varunavat hill came down to the city near the collectorate. The administration has asked the people still living in Old Tehri to shift to safer places as the town is likely to be submerged by the increased flow in the Bhagirathi and the Bhilangana. In Dehra Dun, several localities in low-lying areas have been flooded with knee-deep rainwater. Residents of Chandernagar complained that a good portion of their household goods had been damaged by the water which could have been checked if a proper drainage system had been made.
