NEW DELHI, JULY 31. The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) has sought intervention of the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikishit, against any increase in luxury tax and its re-imposition on printed rather than actual tariff with regard to tour operators and travel agents. The Delhi Government had, in 1999, amended the Delhi Tax on Luxuries Act, 1996, to allow imposition to luxury tax on actual rather than the printed price but it has now been reversed in the new Delhi budget. "The sudden increase in the luxury tax and its re-imposition on the printed tariff," the IATO President, Subhash Goyal, said, "would not only affect the business of many tour operators but also adversely affect the tourism industry as a whole."
